Write My Essay For MeEthical principles are essential guidelines that allow nurses to have a greater perspective during stressful situations and directly or indirectly provide solutions to the issue. The purpose of hospice care is the provision of compassionate and wholesome care. Practicing passionate care requires the medical professionals to be fully present and observant to the terminally ill patient, and support them in their emotional, spiritual, physical and mental sufferings (Scher & Kozlowska, 2018). In the provided scenario, my initial response will focus on showing empathy and acknowledging Mr. Newcomb’s request. It is essential to discuss with the patient regarding their request and also highlight to them that they have the right to choose the type of care they want to receive.
As a medical professional, I will analyze the request profoundly and see what lies beneath the surface, especially when handling such a dying patient. If Mr. Newcomb insists on meeting his mistress, I will not wholly abide due to the professional and ethical issues involved. The ethical issue in this situation is not on the nature of Mr. Newcomb’s unethical request since I will not compromise the quality of care he was receiving (Ashcroft et al., 2015). Granting this request might be beneficial to the patient as it might positively influence his emotional rehabilitation during his treatment process. However, the ethical conflict only lies on the non-disclosure of the request to his wife. As a medical professional, it is critical to consider Mrs. Newcomb’s role in the career process and also the sufferings she has experienced with her husband’s illness.
In this situation, Mr. Newcomb has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer; he and his wife share a deep love between them. The patient’s request is unethical and highly unprofessional. It is unethical for the nurse to lie to the wife and this is relative to the fact that nurses must provide accurate information at all times to the patient and their loved ones (Stanford & Connor, 2014). This allows the afflicted family to make informed decisions. Lying to the wife would only result in a severe breach of ethical regulations and would also lead to poor decision making between the patient and medical professional as well as the loved ones of the patient. It is therefore important to highlight to Newcomb that his request would be declined since it is both unprofessional and unethical.
How the principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and justice applied to the scenario.
The autonomy principle emphasizes that the patient has complete authority over their body. The medical professional can provide recommendations and consultations to the patient but cannot attempt to persuade or coerce the ill individual into a decision that violates the principle of autonomy (Ashcroft et al., 2015). Ultimately, the sick individual must be allowed to make their medical choices regardless of the beliefs of the medical provider regarding whether the chosen treatment plan will reflect on a positive health outcome for the patient. I respect the autonomy of the patient in making his request; however, drawing the line in such a situation is essential since it is unprofessional and places the nursing practitioner in a morally unacceptable position and environment.
The principle of beneficence ensures that all medical professionals must perform all their duties to ensure that the health outcome for the patient will be positive. All procedure and treatment that are recommended in health care must
